#Streamline HA access on mobile

I’m testing out Nabu Casa right now and feel like the process for connecting to home assistant on mobile has too many unintuitive steps. I have the public url of my HA set in Servers on the iOS app.

If I then have the server set to the local IP and I’m not connected to my home WiFi, I have to manually change over to the public one to make it work. On the other hand, if I have it set to the public address but I am connected to my home WiFi, I now have to deal with the delay since it still communicates over the public internet. I feel like which server to select should be automated.

Alternatively, does anybody know of a setup that would work for me?

You have two servers entered for the same HA instance?

It is automated if you have one server entered. Get rid of the duplicate which uses the Nabu Casa URL if that's what you have, and go back into the settings for the other local entry.

You should see internal URL in use when on your WiFi and external URL to be used when outside of your network. The external URL should be set to automatically use Home Assistant Cloud, or you can click that and manually enter your Nabu Casa URL.

To get it to automatically switch you'll need to configure the SSID of the local wifi

In the companion app on mobile, goto settings -> companion app and tap on the server name. Under connection info you should see "Home Assistant URL" which should be set to your external url., below that should be Home network which should be set to the SSID of your WiFi network and below that Internal Connection URL which should be set to the local address used when connected on the Home WiFi Network.

This should make the companion app work over the Internal URL when connected to the Home WiFi (matching SSID) and the External URL at all other times.
