I've got two string lights plugged into a dumb outdoor power strip. Can I plug the power strip into a single dimmer outdoor smart plug? Or will the power strip not handle the change in duty cycle very well, i.e. I need two dimmer smart plugs that sit between the strings and the power strip.

VERY bad idea. You cannot guarantee that the plug will not dim. If a power brick is plugged in it could overheat and cause fire.

The strip itself won't care, the devices plugged into it however will
