#How does HA track energy usage?

Hi, new to HA ofc. Does HA gets whatever data the device currently says, or does it poll the current usage displayed by the device and does the math by itself?
My device is a TOMPD-63WIFI

it just tracks the kWh values reported by the device itself

if those values are not reported, you can use the riemann sum integral helper to integrate power (kW) over time to get kWh
