#Set a Timer

Hello there, I have a question and couldn't find anything about it online. When I try to set a timer, I get the response “Sorry, timers are not supported on this device.” But I don't understand why. As far as I understand, this is a default configuration and should work out of the box.
Background information: I use HA as an image and run it on a Linux (x86) computer in HVM.
Can anyone give me a tip as to what the problem might be? Thanks!

I use an Intel NUC (a cheap version of it) with an AMD processor, a USB microphone, and a USB speaker. I am trying to use the “Set a timer for 5 minutes” function in chat with the conversation agent “Home Assistant.”

I access the it via NAT, because HA is running in HVM on my Linux machine

also if your running haos in a VM then you should have networking set up so it gets its own ip on the main network not through a nat. otherwise device discovery will be flakey at best and you may have some other issues.

I don't quite understand that. What does the browser have to do with the timer? I only use the browser to interact with HA. If a use a Timer-Helper and add a custom sentence (like "start myCustomTimer) i can start this specific timer and when the timer in gone, i can play a sound.

#

and yes currently i use nat, but i will change that

assist timers and timer helpers are not the same thing.

#

assist timers run on the VA device not the backend. and browsers do not support this (at least currently)

#

okey now i think i understand, the assist timer functionality is not handled by the backend

#

i use Ubuntu

then you could run the linux VA i beleive and speak directly to it

#

right now i can already speak to it

#

i have Whisper and Piper an openWakeWord and a wyoming-satelite all running on my fake intel nuc

gotcha, btw wyoming-satelite is probably going to be replaced with linux-voice-assistant in the future.

all right, now i see

LVA uses the same protocol as ESPHome based satellites which makes feature parity easier

#

there was a livestream explaining a lot of stuff about assist/voice last night actually - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIkguv0NEQI
worth a watch if your interested in messing with it more and learning how all the pieces fit together and things work.

Join the people who work on our Voice features to see how our assistant can now control more things in the home, in multiple languages at the same time, all while not talking your ear off.

...well, ~the team~ might talk your ear off! 😅

They will also go over the key developments in Voice since the last chapter update. Can't wait to see you ...

alright, nice info!

#

just to make sure this is my setup:

#

and maybe i can use assist timers when i replace my wyoming satelite with linux-voice-assistant

#

looks like this

plain sleet
#

yes by talking directly to LVA timers (not using a browser) timers I think should work. they are supported by it but its still in "experimental" so some issues may occur etc...
