#Cant connect tapo device to ha
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
have you tried enabling local control for the device in the tapo app? i think its called "3rd party control" or something on some
if still having issue you may have same issue as here #1431679562839756820 which is basically "tp-link fuckery"
tp-link fuckery
it seems like they are slowly locking stuff down. i suggest moving away from tp-link as you add or replace things.
well that is not really possible rn because i spent like 50 bucks on stuff
yeah, if you can get it working for now then its not an emergency replace everything thing. but in the future go a different way. although some people have just not been able to get some stuff working at all. in which case maybe return it.
well i may be able to use it with the google intergration through the google assistant sdk but it would probably be really janky like really janky
I imagine they are slowly locking it down but kinda leaving some stuff semi working. then suddenly they will push an update and be like. you need to pay a sub to carry on using stuff, you have 7 days or you have bricks
they have not shown themselves to be trustworthy
well this problem happened on devices i had to reset
is internet mandatory to use the devices @grand fiber or could you block internet access on router level?
sorry, ping..
so you need internet and an account for the app to turn on the local control thing. and i think you can turn off internet for a bit but after what seems to be a random amount of time the device complains that it cant call home and stops working.
on some of the kasa branded stuff used to have no auth at all and could be done locally. but new firmware put a stop to that. but if you have an old firmware version thats fully blocked then its fine. the tapo branded stuff always needed at least inital authentication but then could be blocked but that got stopped with firmware update to require the current setup
so yes i just found out that tp link automatically turned off 3rd party control so every device that i had to reset and reconnect to ha just refused to do it
yeah that happens on occasion too...
yea well i mean i cant really connect them back because it also happened that my wifi extender finaly died yesterday
ty
man my luck is shitty
old kasa app that could be local only got trashed too and its tapo app only now (although you might be able to get an apk somewhere) so that even if you have old devices to set them up you need to use new app which means you get new firmware.
if you have an old kasa branded device with old firmware then you could onboard them with an opensource tool. you can connect to a ap it broadcasts and send api commands. but you need to be sure internet is blocked otherwise as soon as it hits the network it will update.
basically the short version is: avoid/move away from tp link
shitty stuff
yeah, sounds like your having a bad time of it
yea i mean best case scanario is i ask my provider for an ap they might send one for free might not depending on my luck
i had some kasa stuff, it used to be "okay" but its chaos now. i dont use them anymore
if they send one it is going to be a cheap tp link one since i highly doubt they will send the expensive ubiquiti once they sell
buying a decent AP is a good investment tbh. buy once cry once sorta thing.
can't complain with asus ai mesh routers/ap's
i have some other things that i am saving up for so i cant really dish out that much cash now
Looking for something specific? what location are you? > have one Linksys LAPAC1750 for sale..
well not really i am just looking for a cheap solution to my problem atm
