just unboxed and tried to connect my HAV PE device to my pi4 HaOS system, and it kept getting stuck on ESPhome, which wasn't installed so I added that to the HA, but didn't create a yaml.. and when using the local usb connection and ESPHome Web it appears to have bricked it. anything I can do?

ok so you do NOT need the ESPHome builder tool installed unless you are planning to customise the firmware.
try flashing it from your desktop using THIS TOOL
first using THESE instructions.
if that doesn't work then you can using the tool in bootloader mode as per THESE instructions.
as part of those flashes it will allow you to set wifi creds to connect it to your network. then hopefully home assistant will see it.
also ensure your home assistant is up to date.

have you tried adding it to the esphome integration (NOT THE BUILDER TOOL ADDON) manually by ip?
do you have a basic network setup or do you have some elaborate setup with vlans or the such?

maybe disconnect the vpe and remove everything related that is already set-up in HA. (Not in ESPHome) Then reboot and reconnect vpe. I think it will automatically pop-up.
