#"smooth" humidity data

Hello, I have an aqara T1 humidity/temp sensor that only reports every so often. It updates whenever a meaningful change happens (a few percent it seems), so the output is stepped. I control my humidifier based on this output so it sometimes overshoots or undershoots. I would like to "smooth" this data, ie draw a spline through it, so I can get some kind of rough approximation of the data points that are not there.

From my testing with the lowpass filter helper it seems that the filter only updates when the sensor does, which isn't super helpful

Obviously the actual solution is to just get a better sensor.

Smoothing it out will only delay the measurement as it cannot predict the future. Thus giving you an even larger overshoot.

But normal house humidity isn't that critical (nor accurate as object hold on to moisture) so I would think a sensor like this is more then enough to regulate a house.
