Hi there,

seeing more devices migrating to Gemini - but looks like it won't work with home automations (my HASS is connected to Google Home manually, not via the subscription method)?
Asking Gemini for turning lights on/off or for temperature sensors - it's just googling for what i said.
Found no threads about that here yet, is no one affected by this?

in assistants > check if you selected to control home assistant.

Okay, found out i have to add Gemini via Devices settings and connect it with an api key, where, when i create it, i can import the connection for google assistant. Will give it a try, isn't there a documentation about i missed?
Thanks for the hint btw!

Okay, i think i didn't describe it good enough: i want Google Gemini to control my home assistant via Gemini App etc., but have seen in the Google home app it isn't ready to do this now - but was able to register to try it when it's available.
Otherwise, a good idea to play with AI LLM, maybe host one myself and migrate my Google Home Speakers to ESP32 stuff, maybe i can run such stuff on my Raspberries, which are actually just Snapcast clients, but maybe could be extended with USB Microphones to make Smart speakers out of them. Didn't search for existing projects yet, let's see what is possible right now!

To confirm, you have Google Assistant configured in HA (using https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/google_assistant/ and not the Home Assistant Cloud integration) and some devices which switched to using Gemini don't work?

Or are you asking in advance?

I haven't opted in to that on my own Google Home devices yet, but I've seen some who are using the Cloud integration have and it appears to work. I do know that secure devices which use a code such as locks and garage doors will not work after making the switch.

I've been curious if my stuff will work as well after they roll it out to everyone

It works for me. Go to Gemini app tell
It to turn on light and it connects to Google Home and does it.

#

You have to tell it in Gemini somewhere but I don’t remember where I did it

for me (and other users what i read in articles i can't find right now) it asked me in the google home app to activate the connection to gemini as soon as it's available (which isn't right now).
so i assume after this it should work, if you already connected your home assistant to google and are able to control devices via the google home app.
i tried the other side, connected my gemini to ha's voice integration which enables me to control everything via AI (which works really nice, but is not the way i want to use it, or, i'm just trying out with a satelite device i recently bought, but the performance is a bit weaker and it's responding slower as a google home speaker, which makes it unusable for me actually). but it's nice to be able to ask "which lights are turned on", "how are the temperatures in my home" and so on - so i will wait until it works, think everything should be good then.

You could speed up assistant answers if using nabucasa cloud.
