Hey all, I'm looking for a minisplit air conditioner that has good compatibility with homeassistant. I see this post from the subreddit but it's from 3 years ago. Does anyone have any more recent recommendations?

theres a ton of them that do.. just depends on how far you're gonna go to do it 😄
it looks like most of the mitsubishi models that are supported are discontinued
I'm thinking of going with this one: https://mrcooldiydirect.com/products/mrcool-diy-4th-generation-12k-btu-wall-mount-air-handler-230-volt-with-enhanced-wifi-diy-12-hp-wmah-230c25
mainly because it's on this list: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/midea-a-c-and-esphome-component-list-of-all-known-working-models-and-manufacturers/320784
and the brand is listed on as supported for this dongle: https://smartlight.me/smart-home-devices/wifi-devices/wifi-dongle-air-conditioners-midea-idea-electrolux-for-home-assistant

Some of the logging output is in French, but that shouldn't be a big deal. I am using an M5stack Atom, which is enclosed in plastic. A custom 4-pin to 5-pin cable can be obtained or made to connect it to the Mini split.
But what kind of mini split? Most Mitsubishi ones I've seen are discontinued
I'm not sure. Mine was just installed in new construction like 3 months ago. Mine is ducted however. Not the kind you're looking for. One unit outside, and another in the attic.
The project was intended for use with a Mini split though.
They have a list of known working units in the readme.me
Im not sure if thats what you Are looking for, but Maybe have a look at Midea PortaSplit.. Its the only mobile AC, which is real
„split“ and it works flawlessly both in cooling (12.000 BTU!!!) and as a HA device with Integration „Midea AC LAN“. Tbh its not really mini but you can use it everywhere or disassemble within seconds. This thing literally changed my life for the better, No more sweaty balls in summer living in 3rd floor under the roof
I can just recommend
coming back to say that I did end up going with that mr cool air handler and dongle, it's confirmed working in home assistant
one thing to note is that the usb port on the air handler motherboard needs to be desoldered and a new usb a port needs to be soldered onto the board since the default port is keyed for some reason and normal usbs can't be plugged in
