Am I just bad at this? I have ZWave JS UI and a TubesZB Z Wave controller, and none of my SmartStart Devices ever include on their own, and my HoneyWell Thermostat says it included and lists itself with node ID etc but I see nothing in the UI. Am I missing something dumb? Everything else seems to work as it should with no errors from what logs have shown

The thermostat thinks it has successfully connected but even on silly logs level I just see "Adding the node failed"
What's your background RSSI measurements?
-128 across the board, one time a couple showed -36
Yeah, that's the problem. You've got some kind of serious interference.
This is my second tubeszb controller, I'm not sure what else to do. I don't know what could be crushing it so badly
I believe -128 is an error, -36 is hopelessly bad. The ideal would be around -105.
what controller is it?
zac93?
zac93, 800 series as received from tubesZB
FW V2.10, SDK 7.23.2
ESPhome updated it to latest on it's end too. 2025.10.06.2
I just tried the old one, and it appears to also report -128 (tbf I believe it did this before) so I'm not sure what else to try. I might buy the new HA official zwave usb and see if I have the same issue.
I have a smartthings hub, and it did connect to that just now. Would a smartthings hub have enough juice to block this?
I wouldn't think so, but turning it off would be an easy test.
yeah I mean they're separated by a floor and part of a server rack.
Usually I'd point to https://zwave-js.github.io/zwave-js/#/troubleshooting/first-steps?id=controller-placement but you're using POE, the things to check would be metallic surfaces/server rack, or if you have any nodes spamming.
it's reporting this with it next to me on the couch with a long ethernet cable lol. Only reason I really went poe was to be able to set these transmitters in ideal positions such as in the ceiling far away from the rack
I only have the smartthings hub, this tubezb, the thermostat, a yale lock with zwave module, and two fire detectors. I wouldn't think any of these would be "spamming"? And again the smartthings hub just grabbed it like it was nothing. I feel like something has to be messed up either in the tube or by me. But like I didn't mess with anything with the hardware or firmware of the zooz to be getting such crap signal
Sounds like the problem has been seen before. https://github.com/zwave-js/zwave-js/discussions/7850
Ugh, that’s really disappointing
