Hello im trying to get into home assistant and was wondering if people would be able to send some links to everything i would need, trying to futureproof so if it costs a bit extra it shouldn't be too much a problem, just trying to get everything I would need

But for anything more useful you should share:

  1. what smart protocol you plan to use (WiFi, zigbee, z-wave or matter)
  2. what you have in your home that could be smart (e.g. what devices you want, like sensors, blinds, sockets, bulbs, etc)

I think frient seems to be high quality, but for any brand you will find people who love it and people who have issues with it.

I would say that named brands are probably 10% more reliable over alibaba stuff (and maybe 2-10x price), but this will all be subjective.

#

So you'll need more specific questions to get more useful answers and avoid a bike shedding contest

Right now I think im getting a home assistant green, but im open to yellow if i know what to get, zbt-1, but i think theres a few more usb connectors that I need to get for like z wave, basically if there was a best to go for that aren't items to add to home assistant but to get the system up and running is what im trying to do

Got it, I don't use matter or z-wave, so don't know what is best there.

There was a new Z Wave 2 connector made by HomeAssistant, but that may take a while to become stable

Should I go with home assistant green or yellow?

Buy a sff pc 2nd hand (hp,dell etc.) or a Beelink s13. Consider 8-16gb RAM. Then (if you want to be futureproof) install ProxmoxVE on it and run Homeassistant as Virtual Machine in it. That way you have a fast and responsive system, ready to be expanded with other things without the need of an extra pc. It's also very simple to setup (install proxmox and run 2 commands in shell, and you have home assistant up&running).

If you have to choose between wifi stuff or zigbee stuff, always go for zigbee, as it is way more reliable. Look for e.g. SMLIGHT SLZB-06.

#

And if you stumble across some Tuya devices..... Don't....

#

If you plan to use voice assistants, consider a NabuCasa cloud subscription, as this will improve voice without need of GPU etc. and will give extra options as remote access and online backups.

yup

Is beelink the one youd suggest?

That should work just fine. 2nd hand sff's are a lot cheaper though, and maybe even more easy to upgrade. Personal choice would be a 2nd hand sff.

#

You get nice ones for around 100 euro

#

The difference here is energy too, Those Beelinks will be more power efficient than the ssf's.

I am pleased with my SMLIGHT SLZB-06 as it can be powered with PoE, and can be placed where you want with network cable. Reliable, and as much as i like Home Assistant, i have seen a lot of issues with the ZBT-1 lately...

#

slzb can handle multiple protocols, but i only use zigbee.

#

and has a decent antenna

the hue does zigbee for sure, the rest can be added with integrations/addons, all available in Home Assistant

#

they will likely use wifi.

So in total I just need a sff/beelink and slzb-06? To start out and semi-futureproof

yup, thats it. But as you use home assistant and get tickled, options enough to add.. 😉
