Anyone uses android tablets as wall panel/dashboards here? I'm using a very old 7inch android tablet.. that has only 512Mb of RAM and is very slow.. so I'm looking to get a new cheap tablet..
I have my eyes lenovo tab m10 hd.. it has 2GB RAM.. snapdragon 400 series processor.. wonder if this would be enough hardware for the purpose.

#

This tablet I have my eyes on is only (after converting from my currency) $67.61.

it's a bit on the edge, as long as android is supported on that tab (unless you unlocked it with bootloader etc.) it will work. Personally i run a Lenovo m10 3d gen tab running fully kiosk Tab/HA. The problem is that, unless you unlock it, you would have a brick when os is no longer supported.

What are the specs for your m10 3rd gen tab BTW?

Pls google specs, dont know right know

I don't want to know everything just ram and all..

4gb

#

technically your tab also has outdated android version.. there no more security patches and all for that.

The version history of the Android mobile operating system began with the public release of its first beta on November 5, 2007. The first commercial version, Android 1.0, was released on September 23, 2008. The operating system has been developed by Google on a yearly schedule since at least 2011. New major releases are usually announced at Goo...

I will be wall mounting the tablet so docking stand is of no use to me. Also this tablet brand is not available here.

obtuse linden

As you use it as dashboard, the lenovo is fine.

deep wadi
#

Yes, but will 2GB ram be sufficient?

obtuse linden
#

yes as you dont install haos on it. it runs the normal android os and fully kiosk (or other options) just runs on top of it.

no, you run haos on a dedicated machine and use your tablet with haos companion app and/or fully kiosk installed as apps.

deep wadi
#

Why you said,

yes as you dont install haos on it
though?

Makes sense. I also heard a lot of people say, tablets is a bad choice.. use a proper wall panel displays..

#

any thoughts on that?

obtuse linden
#

No need

deep wadi
#

is there any alternative to FKB?

#

some FOSS option perhaps?

#

I do wanna protect the battery of the tablet and ability to turn on/off display based on camera motion or something...

obtuse linden
#

Tabs running fine for years, use smartplug and automate charging with battery sensor tablet. Say if batt lvl is 30 pct then charge until 75pct, then turn off charger. Motion detection also possible to turn on display

deep wadi
#

Hmm.. how would you turn display on with smart plug?

#

the tab I have my eye on is running android 9.. and doesn't have AFAIK any kind of camera motion thing to turn screen on/off.

obtuse linden
#

Plug is only for charging. You use the motion detection exposed in FK. So if cam detects movement, display on. Works with proximity sensor too

deep wadi
#

Oh! Hmm..

obtuse linden
#

using the plug only to switch on/off battery charger. the best batt saving thing is to not let it drain completely and not to load it completely.

#

turning of display with fk is a good thing too

deep wadi
#

Yes, the tablet I have currently have already had bloated battery once..

#

wanna avoid that as much as I can.

obtuse linden
#

I hope i have answered all your questions?

deep wadi
#

I think so.

obtuse linden
#

ok, then you can mark your thread as resolved 😉 good luck setting it all up!

deep wadi
#

how do I mark it resolved?
