Hello, I have this Sensus water meter inside my garage, the outside of the garage has this external box which I believe the city people read the meter wirelessly with.
How exactly do I connect into this system to feed into HA? When I google it I see pictures of old school style meters being also called iperl like mine so I'm confused. I'm assuming I can get a radio dongle to intercept the signal like the city does.
Any ideas?

Unless you can figure out whether it has some open radio communication protocol. I doubt it

yeah from what I saw on the 2nd image the top part is a cover, you sure they don't walk to the device and read it manually?

So go for rtl-sdr (I heard it's around $15) or this https://www.nooelec.com/store/sdr/sdr-receivers/nesdr-smart.html ~$40, and you'll probably have to analyze the signals yourself and see what's up, might be unencripted, might be encripted

easier solution might jut be taking a camera which periodically takes pictures of the display with the lid up, send it over to some ML service which gives you back numbers and used them in HA
