does it have to be AA or AAA? or just battery powered, mostly with those flat round CRxxxx batteries.

i guess you want to 1 switch ON/OFF and 2 set BRIGHTNESS +/-

from the start, DONT go for WiFi but choose wisely for zigbee! if you use ZHA for zigbee in HA, not all devices are supported but is easy to setup.

If you use combi of Mosquitto broker and Zigbee2MQTT in HA it will be (a little bit) harder to setup, but will support more devices.
