Remote Voice Assistant to Open Ratgdo garage

My goal is to be able to use 'Okay Google' on my android phone, in order to open my ratgdo connected garage door when I am away from my home network. To this end, I was following guide that had me set up my own domain, and I was even able to connect it to home assistant with port forwarding, however I found that a later step in the guide, relating to Google Cloud Actions, had been sunset/deprecated/abandoned by Google so that google could force people to use Matter.

Is Nabu Casa the only way to get a voice assistant working for my needs, or can someone suggest another way... as my whole point of adopting home assistant was to avoid paying some monthly subscription in the first place

Note I have HAOS installed on a VM through Proxmox, on a dedicated thin PC.

Nabu casa is a great way, more secure and you're giving money to the right people

it's not an answer to your question, but I found I also needed to add a notification when the garage was open (or it was left open) because I would accidentally trigger it so wildlife didn't get inside
