#Adding uControl Remote to Home Assistant, looking for developer interest first

We’ve built a WiFi + IR handheld smart remote called the uControl Remote. It is designed to work with our own control processor, but after a recent trade show I had several conversations with people asking about Home Assistant support. That got me thinking… maybe we should consider opening things up a little.

I know there are many DIY options and some more high end controls out there but we're considering opening up the remote so that it can be configured entirely from Home Assistant.

We’re considering giving a handful of developers access to the remote so they can explore and potentially built (and manage) an integration with HA. Before I pitch this idea internally, I’d love to get a sense of whether the community would find this interesting.

With access a developer would be able to do the following:

  • send GET commands to HA for processing
  • trigger/store IR commands from the on-board IR emitter (pronto)

  • detect single press/long press actions

  • draw optional menus

  • report wake/sleep states to HA

  • execute keymaps

  • print information to OLED screen (feedback)

I'm not super familar with discord, so far, I've been checking out what most the people have been cooking in the-kitchen but if you think this might be interest to someone you know please point them back here.
