I am using Tailscale for connectivity and it generally works well but requires frequent restarts. It's annoying as it breaks widgets etc. and requires extra steps every time. Is it possible to configure the app to use the local channel when at home to make it more reliable locally?

Yes, just add an "Internal connection URL". You have to select you Home network (SSID) first.

I use a shortcut (with the iOS shortcut app) that fires up my VPN the second that it loses the wifi SSID. Works very well.
