dealing with both utility data and local measured data

I have the Opower addon pulling my electricty usage from PG&E so I can get cost info. I also have an emporia vue on my breaker panel for real time data.

There are a few issues here. I want my electricy usage graph that has the hour by hour bar chart to be meaningful. That means I need to put my vue mains sensor as a grid consumption sensor. But with both the vue mains sensor and the opower sensor as grid sensors, they get added together. Further complicating it, the opower sensor isn't updated hourly. I'm not sure how often the data is updated, but whenever it is all the energy usage since the previous update appears as a huge usage during the hour the new data arrived.

Is there any way to usefully incorporate this data? At a minimum I would need a way to not simply add the vue energy usage and opower energy usage together. I guess a way to mark the opower data as 'upstream' of the vue would solve that. Or separating the I like being able to see my costs, but I doubt I'll be able to compute them myself since it's definitely not just a straight price per kWh or something. There are tiers, and maybe time of day differences, etc.

Can you add your vue sensor to energy, and add your opower cost statistic as the Use an entity tracking the total costs for it?

and just don't use the opower energy consumption stat

I wasn't aware that cost part could be split out. That sounds like exactly what I want

I think that ought to work, but I don't recall if there are any gotchas there
