#How do people measure more elements of their home, like lights?

I'm pretty happy with my current energy chart, but I still feel like there's improvement to be done. Still quite a big untracked branch.

I'm down to add a PM in the oven too, which will be another decent chunk.

But then there's all the lights around the house that I don't see how I could measure.

I was thinking of building a ~8 channel ESP with clamps to measure each of the subcircuits in my consumer unit. But I'm not sure that will really help of if it would just make the chart messy. Because some sub-circuits might not be restricted to single rooms, so I'll struggle classifying it. It might do more harm than good?

So my question is, how do people do it? How can I improve the completeness of my chart?

I'm not sure, I'd expect that to be in the docs

yeah I'm trying to learn. Just asking in case you simplified it for me in a sec

#

no prob I'll research

Any idea what these untracked means? That wasn't showing before I added a few Powercalc entities.

#

Also the floor and room levels have been removed from the graph after adding the virtual devices :S

#

not sure why

#

it happens when adding some "upstream" devices :S

Yes the sankey only shows area-based flow or hierarchy-based flow, it can't realistically show both.

#

If you have a hierarchy of devices it will default to that. You can select the preferred view in the card config on a customized dashboard, but not on the main energy panel.

What's the trick to sorting the branches? I feel like I've ordered the devices logically, but the sankey gets all twisted anyway

#

Fridge should be on top, and gets right to the center for some reason

Bump for help

I assume it just gets laid out however the chart library wants, and there's no way to influence it.

Not very much, I think it influences the color

I guess there's probably some very complex algorithm that's trying to fit things where there is space to do so

#

There might have been some PRs this last month to improve lines not crossing over each other so much.

#

I thought I saw one but don't recall 100%

I think there's some sort of "upstream" setting bug.

I've tested a custom sankey card that autoconfigs using the defaul energy dashboard config. The resulting card coincidentally is showing the same sort. And more interestingly, it's NOT showing some of the upstream connections that I have defined, like Studio being in the Ground Floor, and Fridge and Kettle inside the Kitchen. Those are also the items that show sorted in strange ways.

I'm going to test unsettings the upstream of them and trying again.
