Hi. As I am about to enter the smart lock world I started researching but am failing at the very first hurdle and it is a rather stupid one:
every lock I find can be easily opened from the inside with a simple turning knob. However I have a gate where you can simply reach through and thus that is not a very secure option. Am I too blind or is there really no smart lock that has secure options on the inside as well?

What you more likely want is an electric strike lock or a magnetic one (even tho later is more for doors and less for gates)

It would actually apply to my front and rear doors just as well: does nobody have doors with glass panes anymore? Has really no manufacturer thought to bring out one that cannot be opened by simply smashing the glass and reaching in? It seems so essential that I keep thinking I am not searching well enough.

that is quite of an assumption of events. if they want to get in they get in, usually through the windows
but no, smart locks are an accessory unless you want to go with the properly installed options i mentioned. Tho they are strictly speaking entry systems and not locks. Regulatories on how doors can be locked may apply based on your regional building code. Should check those out to see what is allowed to put into place.

There are electrified lock bodies available in the professional physical security world that do what you seem to want to do. However, they are by nature rather large and might not fit your typical gate. If you're amenable to the idea you'd might need to have some cutting and welding done to your gate, I'd contact a professional building security company if I was in your shoes. They might look at you a little funny because you are not their typical customer, but I haven't met a businessman yet who scorns at money waved in their face for prolonged times.

Actually, they have thought of that. It's called armored glass. Comes in all kinds of security levels from simple laminated, smash-resistant glass that stays together if smashed over glass that can resist axes and sledges to full-blown multi-pane, spall-proof armored glass that can resist multiple 50-cal impacts. Your wallet is the limit.
