HA green not working on external monitor?

Hi all,
I've had a Ha green for a while but haven't done much with it. I recently decided to get it set up for real and apparently don't know my password. I tried to follow the instructions to connect to a monitor and keyboard to be able to reset the password using the terminal, but it's not connecting to my monitor (using HDMI). This is a monitor I use every day with another machine so I'm sure it and the cord work fine. The monitor doesn't seem to be receiving any input. All indicator lights on the HA green are lit up like normal. Any ideas? Thank you!

As an update - I tried it with a different monitor and got this ⬆️ error message on the monitor

I wonder if this looks different if you boot the green while the monitor is already connected.
