Regarding the new sidebar in Automation Editor.
I was thinking of something similar-ish last month before I even knew this was happening.
But my idea was the same sidebar but would instead include device controls/state in the sidebar.
Eg If your current selected trigger is a switch, or controllable device, show the controls and recent history, or if it is an entity state, show the state and recent history
Might also be handy to copy in the "set state" feature from developer tools, to modify entity states while testing. Stopping the need to leave the computer to open a window in the basement, as many people forget about "set state" in dev tools.
This is just to stop the need to repeatedly Press E , find the device, play with the popup, go back to the automation, and do it all again for the next device, or test, or open a new tab for each device, another tab for "dev tools> states"
