#Just had to kick down my front door after updating to from 8.3 to 9.1 with a Yale/August deadbolt

So I updated HA from 8.3 to 9.1 which went smooth. I see the notification that August needs to be reauthenticated which I do and it was successful. I then leave the house around an hour later and lock the deadbolt via the button on the keypad.

Around 3 hours later I get home and the deadbolt is completely unresponsive from the outside. No lights, no sound, does not respond to 9V battery. Nothing. However I can see it connected to Wi-Fi and the Yale app can see that is connected but I'm unable to make any changes to the settings whatsoever.

After playing around with the app and HA for about an hour I decided my only option is to kick down my door, which I do, destroying the frame. Once I get inside I reset the deadbolt by taking the batteries in and out and the yale app and HA look to fine afterwards.

Anyone else have this same issue?

It looks like I'm the only one who had this issue. So bizzare.

You had no backup methods of entry? Other doors, physical keys?

Unfortunately, no. I hid a 9V battery in case the locks batteries died but that wasn't the case. The lock seemed like it was in a totally faulted state.

#

This lock doesn't have a key. Just terminals for a 9V battery.

#

I learned a lesson. I have a side door that I am going to hide a key for. I'll have to jump over a tall fence to get it but thats better than kicking in my door.

#

I also called 3 locksmiths to get into that side door but this was 2AM and none answered.

Thanks for sharing

Have you seen something wrong in the logs? Like a disconnection from the deadbolt?

After I updated to 2025.9.1 the Yale integration stopped working for me. I couldn’t work out how to re-authenticate, so I tried deleting and reinstalling the integration, which for 24 hours gave me the error below. The following day I could install it successfully and it’s been fine since 🤞

I always make sure to have a key to the second door, which has a thumb turn lock so I can’t be locked out by a key left on the inside…

I really think the locks firmware was in a totally faulted state since it was still on WiFi but unable to do anything whatsoever

@prisma valve I am also having this issue. I can't re-auth, BUt importantly I cannot login on the August site, I can't reset my password either. My august app is working fine, but it's totally disconnected from HA and it's automations

#

I actually believe this is an issue with August and their Authentication service, not with HA

But is your lock completely unresponsive? This sounds different.

I can't use my lock at all with HA, it's totally disconnected

#

Is your lock responsive from the august app or the touchpad?

#

I would say if your lock was totally siezed, it's an edgecase of the current issue. Which seems awful and your experience sounds very stressfull.

The touchpad was completely unresponsive. No lights, sounds or anything. However it was still connected to my WiFi.

#

Once I got inside I took the batteries out and put them back in and it's been fine since.

I've had my keypad go totally unresponsive if it was unused for a long period of time ~(more than a month), do you use yours regularly?

prisma valve
#

Yes. Very often. I updated and reauthenticated around 7PM, left my house around 10PM and locked the door with the keypad and when I got home at 2AM it was in the frozen state.

#

Looking at my logs for WiFi signal strength of the lock it looks like it may have frozen when I hit the lock button and left.

#

Actuall no. I left my house around midnight, not 10PM. The lock stopped talking to HA about an hour before I left but the lock button on the touchpad still worked. Dunno.

#

The good news is that the doorframe wasn't too badly damaged and I can fix it relatively easy.

#

Now.... I just need to find the keys to my side door. 😅

#

I don't think I'll be purchasing a smart lock without a physical key back up again.

FWIW I opened a ticket with august about the auth issues I'm having I'll see if I end up with similar issues after I can.

#

Sounds like you need to start carrying a full lockpick kit

Unfortunately this lock doesn't even have a cylinder to pick. Only back up option is a 9V battery haha

I've been using HA for a very very long time and this is the first time something failed me in a major way.
