i am super confused with this home thread zigbee matter homekit OMFG my head hurts.

because right now i seam to have no thread network (i was lied to by a salesman).
so, how the flying fcuk do i add thread-matter compatibility (whatever that is) so my god damn lights work with my phone and switches!

Yes, you need a Thread Border Router. I think you can find a list in example on the thread group website , they have a section on certified products. Also probably on Home Assistant forums there are discussions about the different border router options.

You are correct, there’s library’s worth of data on this subject online, and after 4 hours of trying to interpret it I gave up with a screaming migrane and came here asking for help finding a plug in soloution for this that I can afford that actualy will work and solve the issue

Easiest path? Return it and get the 128 gig model with the Ethernet jack and even if you use it over WiFi the Thread radio is there to use
Thread and Matter-over-Thread are a colossal pain to get right, still a pretty big disaster IMO
Supposed to be one standard to rule them all and instead we got just one more half-baked one

It works well for me, only problem is the lack of devices (and that nanoleaf bulbs that were terrible and went back to the shop, dunno if they ever got to fix that)
But yeah, appletv with ethernet, or any device marked as a border router in the thread group page. You have from stand alone devices to media players to f**** microwave ovens that can act as a thread border router listed there

Too many variables to figure out which, but it was some combo of Nanoleaf firmware updates, Apple TV/HomePod mini updates, Google Nest Hub updates, Home Assistant updates, and careful rearrangement of my 2.4 GHz channels
