#Shelly (or something else?) with 12V AC

I need to switch a 12V AC appliance. Seems like the Shelly 1 mini gen3 can do it (because it has a dry contact, which has a max rating but no min) while being powered by 110-240V AC.

But the appliance has a physical switch and I'd like to use it too, and I'm pretty sure it won't work on the Shelly, which needs the SW input to be connected to L (thus 110-240V) to be toggled.

I can't make my external switch handle 240V because it is near a swimming pool, it must stay 12V AC.

What are my solutions?

You could add a relay with a 12Vac coil and let it switch the SW input

#

Or add a 12Vdc supply and power the Shelly with that.

I'll have to find one that is up to french electrical code though

#

and that fits inside a small junction box

In a box will be hard. No option to add an extra box? But maybe a Finder 26.01.8.012.0000 ?

seems perfect yeah

#

i prefer not having to add an extra box, space is tight

#

but the finder should fit in

thanks

At least try to use stranded wire, as Shelly's don't like mechanical stress on there contacts.

@regal sentinel Make sure to use insulated ferrules if possible, with stranded wires. It make the experience much better at least for me. Don't need to worry individual strands breaking off etc.

#

Don't use them with solid core wires though

well you've got a fight with @olive egret I guess 😄

#

tbh I've always used solid core or ferruled wire

#

as far as the gen3 goes the contacts are flat clamps types so it should work fine with stranded wire though
