#Battery levels start at 87%

I’ve got some automations set up to prompt me to get new batteries but for some reason battery levels seem to on the surface at least start at 87%

For example I got the ikea motion sensor (forget the name right now) and I charged the batteries and set it all up but it started at 87. Didn’t really think much of it at the time. Anyway fast forward to today and i set something similar up for our smart cat flap. Swapped out the batteries and it’s 87%! Prior to swapping them it was sitting around -20% and still just about working

Coincidence? Or is there something about how HA is reading the info? Can I set an offset or am I better to just offset my threshold. So if -20 is basically empty maybe set my threshold to 0 or -10?

Both devices run on AA barriers. IKEA rechargeable in the ikea sensor and red energizer in the cat flap (as recommended by manufacturer)

Might need some adjustment later as I know the cold can affect batteries and had noticed in the winter the car flap battery levels according to HA seem to fluctuate with outside temp.

Appreciate any advice

Apologies if not directly the best channel, I checked the list and this was most suited as I’m working on an automation

HA isn't reading that info, it is just receiving it from the integration. So yeah, I assume it's just coincidence. The sensor probably because of rechargeables and the pet flap (I assume a sure pet flap?) likes batteries for breakfast and has horrible indication :p

And yeah, state of charge on most devices is just an indication based on voltage and thus will fluctuate with temperature and is inaccurate.
