#Best music streaming devices to use with speakers?

you could use a raspberry pi, when you use music assistant you can also use the VoicePE or the RespeakerLite
With the latter two you also have voice control.
what do you run on the pi's to do that?
Picoreplayer
Squeezelite works really well with Music Assistant
Dietpi makes it super easy to install too
Picoreplayer is squeezelite protocol.
Could I use a Esp32 instead of a pi? I have a few of those already laying around.
That would be possible, check out the ESP Home Discord server. VoicePE and RespeakerLite are also ESP32 based hardware. Using the Pi though for my Hifiberry DAC.
But it seems it has to be esp32 with WROVER processor for DAC i2s handling.
But again, if you ask this question about esp32 in their discord, you will find answers.
Thanks!
Been rocking the picoreplayer and the squeezelite on an ESP32 Audiokit
Very pleased with it all so far, haven't done anything bar the bare integration for LMS
One of these guys, has everything including the kitchen sink on it for $20 or so
This is the firmware I'm using on it:

Interesting! With this are you able to stream music via Spotify?
I've not tried spotify yet
But seems to work for my needs, although I think I might have to pay the 10 bucks or so for the Android client as I've not found anything free that works well
In theory, you can just open up http://your_LMS_Ip:9000/stream.mp3 and that'll automatically create a client for LMS to stream to, but it's very flakey
It 'works', but you have t press refresh on the stream all the time and it desyncs, so you end up having to fiddle with it a lot
I did however last night setup multiroom audio including a portable speaker, soit was pretty rad being able to walk around my house and be bathed in sound whatever room I walked into
Also have it exactly in time, although that took a bit of fiddling with latencys
With LMS and the Spotty plugin it should work ok. I don’t use MA as LMS is better, especially as the latter works with my existing squeezeboxes. The ESP32 AudioKits aren’t a bad little board. Can’t speak to the audio quality as mine just have little speakers attached (keep meaning to plug one into something decent to hear how they sound but not had the time).
Sounds alright to my tone deaf ears on a £100 set of speakers. Only took me a year to try this out! Confirmed LMS+Spotty+that ESP32 AudioKit board works fine. Can’t say I’m a big music person but I still love my squeezeboxes. Got one still pumping out tunes after over 23 years or something daft. Pleased that I can integrate LMS into HA. Hopefully they don’t depreciate that one what with MA.
Yeah they seem OK to me, there's a bit of hum/noise on the headphone output so it's not ideal, but it's not evident over the speaker out and for the price and what features you get, I think they are pretty good
It is a complete pain in the balls figuring out which board revision you have and what GPIO it's using, however.
Took me about 2 hours of fiddling to find the right settings
