I recently bought a ESP32-S3 based device from Waveshare (https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-4B) which has a mic, speaker and screen. The idea is to use it as a Assist satellite next to my bed with a couple of buttons on the screen to turn off my alarm, open the curtains... However it seems it isn't designed well and doesn't properly work with ESPHome. Does anybody have a similar device that does these things?

what makes it not work with ESPHome?
I was having a hard time trying to make it work and then found this post: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/waveshare-4-inch-display/815061 ; However it seems that is for the older 4 model while I have the 4B model (found that out after posting this). I'm not 100% sure if this has the same issue or not, I'm trying to find it out but might take a while as I'm not this deep into electronics

Hello everyone, i have recently bought the WaveShare ESP32 S3 4 Inch Touch Display and i just cant get it to work… i have tried different codes and all. Here I found infos about the pins (gotta click expand to see the table etc) : This is my latest code I tried from someone else : esphome: name: waveshare-display-1 friendly_name: Wave...
screens on ESPHome can be a bit tricky. you could try askingon th ESPHome discord to get some help writing a config file to do what you want
yeah there is a conversation about that 4 model, I asked if they know if the 4B has similar problems or not, but no answer for now
there is probably a way to get it working but it might require a bit of work
I got a ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-1.85C-BOX a while back and took me a while to get it semi working but i haven't touched it in ages
If it has the same problems as the 4, it needs hardware adjustments according to the experts in that discord, which I'm not comfortable doing
out of interest, what is the actual hardware problem?
No clue, I stopped reading once they started talking about soldering etc as that is a bit too advanced for me haha. If you want you can check out the discussion here: https://discord.com/channels/429907082951524364/1315009772839505940
ah right, i only skimmed it but looks like an issue with onboard io expander which they bypass
Damn I see some sort of "I/O extensions" on the scheme of the 4B as well, fingers crossed it's not the same
