Maybe I'm just dumb, maybe I don't know how to search, maybe I don't know the words to properly find the answer.

No matter what it is, I'm trying to figure out a way to force my Zigbee devices to use the closest router instead of going to the coordinator.

Or am I just stupid and I'm doing it all wrong and need the proper documentation to set me on the right path

The only way to do that is to pair the device to the network with only the target router enabled for pairing. After that though, the device might decide to switch routes anyway

#

Are you experiencing issues with the device though?

eh, delays

#

sometimes not available

#

is there a way to set the minimum LQI?

#

its weird how it'll do this randomly as well.

It’s strange it won’t connect to couch first

#

I’ve also deleted and tried to repair them using the couch as the main device

Because they fail and don’t load or are completely delayed

#

I’m trying to make the mesh better so that doesn’t happen

Where is your dongle placed in relation to the other rooms (ideally it is centrally in your home)? Is it plugged straight into a USB port or are you using an extension lead to get some distance between PC and USB stick?

The LQI values reported aren't necessarily accurate and really should be ignored. It is not unusual to see devices connecting to what you may think are weaker devices.

What Channel is your Zigbee on? What Channels are your WiFi using? How much other WiFi is possibly interfering?

The dongle is ontop of my server rack in my office on one side and the bar back led strips are on the exact opposite side of the house and in between them is the couch router. Think the channel was set to auto and it’s at 20, I don’t remember what the WiFi is set to and totally could be but still doesn’t answer why it wouldn’t chain to the closest zigbee router and the LQI is understandable, was just mainly using it to show the distance from the dongle

#

Smart not auto

#

Bar is only a couple feet from bar back led strips but it’s closer to the couch router

As you can see from the attached image, Channel 20 is in between Channel 6 and Channel 11 of WiFi and hence your WiFi or others around you could well be causing some interference.

I'm not sure about ZHA, but in Zigbee2mqtt you have the option to put a specific router in pairing mode as opposed to the whole network. You could try doing that when pairing a new device.

I’ll have to check it out later
