#Help with Z-wave Window Covering (dual motor, "bottom up, top down" shades)

I recently got an installed SmartWings' shades that have 2 motors, one that controls the top bar and one that controls the bottom bar: https://www.smartwingshome.com/products/smartwings-motorized-light-filtering-levitate-cellular-shades-nowa

Got them paired to Z-wave alright (via Z-wave JS). I created two Window controls in Home Assistant (both labelled "Outbound Bottom"), but neither of them do anything.

There's a bunch of settings in the configuration and some of them will actually cause the blinds to move, but even then, some of them are inconsistent or don't make sense.

This may just be an issue of a lacking/poor integration in Z-wave JS, but maybe I'm just missing something cuz it's a different case with the dual motors? Has anyone else ran into weirdness with Z-wave blinds, especially SmartWings and/or dual motor ones?

SmartWings

Levitate cellular window blinds inside SmartWings Nowa's motorized light filtering shades provide light control and energy efficiency to enhance the home’s look.

Can you open a discussion in the zwave-js repo, along with the logs it asks for?
I've never actually seen a device with this configuration in the wild. Happy to take a look at this.

#

To make sure I understand the device, you should be able to move the top and bottom separately? One closes to the top, one to the bottom?

yeah. hopefully the screenshots in the link make it clear. I don't know of a consistent name for that type of blinds

The specs have all kinds of combinations but all I've ever seen is the classic close-to-bottom with or without tilt

I tried to add a bunch of details explaining the oddities I was observing, etc, to that thread

Did you try controlling it with Z-Wave JS UI? AFAIK HA doesn't support that kind of cover.

#

or not very well

crimson harbor
#

you mean the controls under "Window Covering?"

iron heron
#

yes

crimson harbor
#

none of those do anything

#

some of the options under "Configuration" will get the blinds to move, tho

iron heron

Ok, I see you got 2 controls created in HA, those match the ZUI ones, so N/M. "Full support" in HA would probably not involve 2 controls.

crimson harbor
#

yeah. they are both named "Outbound Bottom," so the 2nd one gets named "Outbound Bottom (2)"

iron heron
#

oh, that seems wrong, but it matches ZUI. there should be an outbound_top, instead it seems like they have outbound_bottom on two different endpoints

crimson harbor
#

if it were just a labeling issue, that'd be fine. but neither in HA nor in Z-wave JS UI does the control stuff do anything

I'll check out the issue tomorrow, but at first glance at the screenshot, I'd say they incorrectly implemented the Window Covering CC.
Should be a single endpoint with 1 Outbound Bottom and 1 Outbound Top entity.

#

HA support is definitely limited for now. I expect this to be modeled as 2 entities for the foreseeable future.

I could live with that... I could live with whatever as long as I can set each by to X% from the top, lol. I just can't make heads or tails of the commands that are here

I am pretty sure the person who created that file works for ZVIDAR.

that's who SmartWings partner with

Interesting, tho
