#Track energy without integration

So apparently my energy provider (Consumers Energy) doesn't have a way to get anything from them. I do, however, have the rates and what hours those rates are, so I'm trying to find a way to manually put that in my dashboard so I can start at least roughly tracking my energy usage while I flesh out my smart home with things.

I currently don't have any entities that reports usage, as I'm waiting on some deliveries still, but if it is at all possible to set it up and just plug in what's on the bills until I can get all that up and running, that'll be amazing.

Also, since now I'm researching a way to try and get a total usage of the entire house to plug into HAOS, anyone got any recommendations for a way to do that and whatever hardware is needed?

Thank you

Go for something like a shelly em3

Everybody loves shelly here

I mean Shelly is a great company from my research

a shelly with CT clamps is generally the way to go 🙂

Would the Shelly replace the main breaker coming into the house?

NO

#

shellys do NOT replace anything and they are also NOT a safety device

#

you power them up and put their clamps around the cables you want to track.
the ones the din rail mount are just that way to be convenient mounting.
if your not sure then you may want to get an electrician in

Ah, just watched the install video. That might be difficult since I don't have din rails in my box

lusty saffron

you don't need to mount it on din, if you have space to put it somewhere else in the box by other means

#

was thinking you could use the non din ones but you need a triple clamp version in US (you were from US right?) cos of your strange split phase nonsense

I do, yes. Two lives and a neutral, if my knowledge is right (it's been a long time since I actually did mains voltage other than 120VAC, but I'm pretty sure it's 240VAC coming into the house). I am planning on installing a recessed network box in the same room as the electrical box, so I can put a din rail in that for access in the future. If I can get away with laying it down in the box and connecting it to mains until that happens (assuming the clamps are like 5 feet long), that'll work

yeah the "neural" is a centre tap of the transformer to give you 2 120 phases.

i think they are usually 1m but i am not 100%

A meter would probably be okay. My studs are 14" on center, so as long as it's not more than two lengths away I can make it work

i just looked it up they are actually 0.6m

I'm going to be ripping out all the drywall there anyways because it's damaged so I have a lot of room to play with, and I'm adding my network rack where the HA miniputer, NVR, and PoE switch is going to live

It's just under 2 feet long

you could extend the cables on them but you might loose some accuracy
