I think that the water in the energy dashboard was always showed as liters in the bar chart. In the latest version (or maybe it is earlier changed) it shows now m3 in stead of liters. Is that changed?

Yes. IIRC it takes the unit from the entity

note that if you click on the entity you can set the display unit in its settings
