Hey all,

Looking for air quality sensors to help identify potentially harmful particles to know if we need to stay inside or not. I’m in SoCal so fire season is near and even had one nearby recently at night where we woke up to nasty smoke getting pulled into the house thru an attic fan.

Ideally I’d want 3 (2 indoor for downstairs and upstairs, and 1 outdoor). Could get away with 2. Would love something that integrates with HA but also is easy to use for my wife and son.

Any resources or recommendations would be great!

difficult. both from a liability of accuracy and what stuff you even should be monitoring standpoint

#

generally anything that measures particles may be able to figure out terrible air but very little about what it is besides that

#

if its just about ppm, the ikea ones work somewhat nicely via zigbee or if you also want co2 for fun you could try the apollo air-1 wich does wifi with esphome

#

id not trust them to be anything but an indicator tho

#

for more complex gas monitoring equipment or for outdoor ones, id be unaware of good to purchase options that dont require diy efforts

The goal isn’t exact precision but indicators to help be aware to take it easier

#

I know monitoring apps like Apple Weather can give that indication but being able to use that in tandem with a home monitoring would be good

The PurpleAir integration has worked decently for me, just using whatever is available from neighbors exposing their external ppms on the map
