#HA strips device prefix from entity

I have a device named Kjøkken - Taklampe. When I set the name of the entity showing Power to Kjøkken - Taklampe (watt) it ends up removing the prefix just showing (watt). Why is that? It looks weird when I search for entities. It shows 10 rows of (watt). One for each device.

Can you show an image of the device page incl that entity?

Ah, yeah. As the prefix matches the complete device name it's stripped on the device page. As having the same name a hundred times is a bit much. It should be displayed in most other places though.

Although I would argue it would be better to give it the correct name instead of the unit of measurement. Aka, call it 'Effekt' (if I'm translating correctly) instead of Watt. As the unit is already part of the state and in most instances nicely added as suffix already 🙂

It's mostly this search view that now looks a bit silly.

But I might try your suggestion and call it Effekt and Energi (for kWh). It's not commonly used terms here even though they are the correct ones. 🙂

In the new search it does show all, it's only split between the suffix large and Area -> Device small 😄 And yeah, I live in a country where most people confuse power and energy...

This is one of the downsides to just calling the power sensor 'Effekt':

I assume this is somewhere n your dashboard? You should not just call the entity 'Effekt' if you don't want to all show "Effekt". You should just cal them "[Device name] Effekt" aka prefix it with the device name (which should be the default). Only in certain places the device name and suffix are shown split. For example on the device page or in the item picker. But when you use an entity on your dashboard, the full name is used.
