My specific example

I also guess I don't place the 3rd pad as I don't have that module. I guess it's the wifi since I ordered without.

Didn't know they sell them without wifi module :o
But yes this fit of the cooler is expected

Hey, new to HA and I have CM5 with wifi. Instructions tell me to install 3 of these pads but I only received 2. Any advice what to do?

Those are likely CM4 pads. Put them on like on this picture.

Thank you @bronze stump are you saying that the other components do not need to be covered?

They would benefit, but it isn't mandatory.

Thank you for the information, will proceed with this

Any idea how thick these pads should be? I'm moving from a CM4 to CM5 and want to make sure I cover all 3, so I'll need to pick up at least one new one.

I don't have the dimensions of the official CM5 passive cooler at hand, but the original CM4 ones (two) are:

  • Heatpad Memory: 10x15x1.8mm
  • Heatpad SoC: 12x12x0.3mm

These are dimensions of the pads of a third party CM5 passive cooler. Those might help.
