Hey everyone, I’m completely new to Home Assistant (HA) and I’m planning to purchase the HA green and zigbee/thread USB because it’s the easiest to set up.

I have a few questions. First, which security camera brands and models would be suitable for outdoor use? I’m also open to indoor cameras in case I want to add some in the future.

Secondly, are there any cameras that work with HA integrated with HomeKit hat allows the Home app to scrub through the recorded footage?

I’m leaning towards POE cameras with an NVR, but I’m open to WiFi or other options based on your suggestions.

If you want more than about 4 cameras, buy a bigger computer...
Look for Beelink or similar form factor devices.
A Green is basically a PI that is preloaded with HA. The load parts only takes a few minutes.

4 cameras with a half dozen integrations is about all it will run well.

Oh wow, okay thanks!

Any specific beelink model? Also I recall seeing that a NAS could run HA, would that be a good alternative? (Double duty for HA and storage)

Right now I’m thinking about reolink with about 4 POE cameras and 1 WiFi doorbell with NVR.

I don't have a specific one in mind. Just something with more horsepower than a Green or a PI for a bunch of cameras.

Just for completeness really. There are cameras with built in detection hardware which do not rely on streaming and thus generate very little load. My setup is a reolink doorbell and a PoE reolink PTV camera, for wildlife watching. Neither consumes hardly any resources on my HA, as both will just ftp mp4 files if they see anything interesting. Sure, the detection might not be quite as good as a dedicated solution that continually pulls down the streams but it works well for me. (The reolink integration is also excellent and I can plumb both into HA, even hooking into the cameras to record streams, etc. I just don’t do that cos the built in detection is easily good enough.)
