#Home Assistant OS on Pi 4: No IP Address Assigned

Hello,

I'm trying to set up Home Assistant OS on a Raspberry Pi 4 (model B, 4GB), flashed with the official HA OS 16.0 image on a 128GB SD card.

The device boots successfully and reaches the Home Assistant CLI interface, but does not receive any IP address for the Ethernet interface:

IPv4 addresses for end0: -

Because of this, I can't access the frontend via homeassistant.local:8123.

Hardware context:

Pi 4 connected via Ethernet to a Google Nest WiFi Pro (DHCP enabled)

Network is working for other devices

I’ve waited several minutes in case DHCP was delayed

Is there a known issue with DHCP and Home Assistant OS on Pi 4 with certain routers (like Google Nest WiFi Pro)? Or could the issue be linked to end0 being down or misnamed?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, as I’m blocked from completing onboarding.

Best regards,

Bryan

PS: I moved from France to Miami, FL, in early July, and I have never experienced it before going to the US.

Please share ha network info.

I don’t know how to write ha network info on CLI since it’s on a TV.

May I plug a Bluetooth keyboard to my TV?

You need to connect a keyboard to the pi. Whether a bluetooth one work I can't tell you. I'm gueesing no.

#

Are those other devices that work connected via a ethernet cable too?

I’m on Wi-Fi since the ethernet plug is too far away from my TV

#

I only have a wireless keyboard

As long as it has a USB dongle it should work.

#

WiFi needs to be configured and is not recommended.

I have no dongle

pulsar sandal

Hmm.

placid edge

Yes maybe I should buy a very long ethernet cable just for configuration

#

And then remain on WiFi?

pulsar sandal
#

Get a keyboard too. Or keep using the cable.

placid edge
#

Ok but there’s no way to use my keyboard without a dongle??

pulsar sandal
#

Since you can't plug it in you need to pair it to the pi somehow and I cannot tell you how.

placid edge
#

Ok

I tried to get IP address with ethernet connection between my Google Nest Pro (GFiber Webpass) and my Pi 4 but it didn’t find anything with Angry IP Scanner

#

Only the IP is missing and this is really frustrating

I believe the pi flasher allows you to configure WiFi before flashing.

#

For troubleshooting you need a proper keyboard.

I tried to configure cmdline.txt
To add a my-network file to force my dedicated WiFi

Do you have any clue?

You can get a wired keyboard for less, will definitely work and you can keep using the other one for whatever.

placid edge

Got it, I’ll let you know

#

Thank you very much anyway

Hi

I just had to change my Ethernet cable and it did work out!

I bought the wired keyboard you suggested but I didn’t need it finally so I’m making a return right away at a Target store

Thank you so much for your help!

I'd still keep it. There will be a time where you need it. Guaranteed.

And now my Ethernet-plugged Pi works perfectly

My smart home system is on, and my wife is under the spell!

Yep. Things can always go wrong and you should plan for that. Like what do you do if the HA GUI does not start and the SSH addon doesn't work?
