Intel's 4-8 gen is usually cheap to be had. Pick something with at least 120G/250G storage, 8GB RAM and 4 cores.

I don't think so. There's lots of advice but it's spread over multiple discussions.

would make sense though recommending minimum hardware. e.g. SFF with N100 and 8GB ram, Beelink etc.

These (U)SFF machines from well known companies also have some other benefits over N100 systems such as BIOS upgrades, exchangable CPUs, dual channel support, sometimes PCI(e) expansion, etc.

The only reason I'd buy a Mini PC is because I can get it fanless. And yeah Mini PC and USFF is kind of the same. With USFF I'm referring to HP, Dell, Lenovo ones.
