Maybe this has been discussed already, I haven't really been following. But as the title - the buttons in area cards turns off lights for me, but doesn't turn them on. Is this by design? State color also doesn't change once pressed.

No I wouldn't say that's by design, it's supposed to be a toggle.
Haven't heard of anyone reporting such an issue though.
Almost sounds like you have one light that's failing to turn off, so the toggle is always trying to turn them all off, and the icon always registers as on.

Admittedly this sounds reasonable, but its not the case unfortunately
