So to keep this simple i want to make my basement lights smart i dont want to use four different smart switches so i was hopping on getting a relay or mcb or whatever thats called to replace the mcb thing in the electrical box with as of my knowladge all the lights are connected to that one mcb or relay or whatever so i wanted to ask more experienced peope with shelly products about recommendations

okay so you can add a shelly device to your box. the pro series is designed to mount on din rail in such a box.
however... and i will be very clear...
THEY DO NOT REPLACE MCB'S
THEY ARE NOT A SAFETY DEVICE
if you don't understand this and how these things work
YOU SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS YOURSELF
also should let us know what country you are in for best recommendations.
This sounds very much like an
- it's not the right tool
- it's not the right place
Kind of situation
Well thats the thing i have no clue how my basement is wired up and if thats the electrical box
There are two places that look like an electrical box one inside the basement has 3 switches that we use to turn off stuff around the basement
And then there is one outside my basement
Even if i buy a shelly pro series i wasnt planning on installing it myself with zero knowledge ill hire an electrician
Oh yea i am from Greece forgot to mention that sry
Well I talked with my father he told me that those are circuit breakers or mcbs so i guess if i buy one of the pro series i need to tell the electrician to wire it after the mcb so i can have protection and smart control for the lights?
That will bring exactly no smart controls to your lights
All it does is turn power of or on to a circuit. There is no control over which consumer will turn on or how any other switches are set within that circuit
There is little to no gain from such a solution for light controls
I mean that's what i was trying to achieve just a simple on off switch for all the lights i dont need smth super fancy for my basement
Just smth that i can add for convenience since i dont want to walk up to the circuit breaker every time to turn them off and on
If i want individual control i would need to get smart switches for every light light i have down there and those light switches are super degraded
yes wiring something like a shelly pro 1 AFTER the MCB is a way to switch the entire circuit. so if switches are left on then it will switch them. that shelly is rated at 16A so the mcb should be this at max too.
You probably do not want to switch it anywhere near to that current rating tho
indeed, but i assume if its just a lighting circuit then it wont be an issue in practice
Yea generally it should be for that case. Just something to watch out for
Not sure the rating yet ill check when i can i am currently on vocation so most of the info is bassed on memmory
But yea it should be lighting only
The light switches wont be an issue no one who comes in the basement uses em
Everyone just goesnup into the mcb and turns it on or off
Ngl only reason i am getting a shelly product cause its going to be cheaper compared to switching all the switches there like 5 switches and the smart ones that are available here are like atleast 20 bucks so its not worth it in the end
