#Presence automation with Wi Fi

Hi I'm trying to make an automation that turns off my lamp when my phone disconnects from the Wi-Fi network. Although I'm having problems with HA detecting if I'm connected.

I'm using Android and I have given HA app on Android permission to location. As I have read for it to work it needs location access.

I'm so confused why it doesn't see the Wi-Fi status.

it doesn't go unavailable straight away when it stops getting updates. it assumes last known state

could be a permission thing, but also not all sensors work 100% with all phones

if you have a ubiquiti access point you can device track with them. its not super quick but its fairly reliable

or you could use ble tracking with some bluetooth proxies

if you set up external access then you could just have your phone report location and then when you move out of the "home" zone can trigger stuff

What my intentions are is when I go to bed I put my phone in 'Flight mode' and I want the lamp to turn off automatically after I do that

i dont think there is going to be anything that will trigger on that. at least with any degree of responsiveness

could add a widget to your home screen to toggle the lamp and just press that before turning on flight mode?

I use a ZigBee double button to make some automations before sleeping. It's easy and reliable

I use the ping integration to track our android phones and it works flawlessly

I've heard that there may be issues with iphones though
