#Struggling with Shallow Wall Boxes and Shelly Relays – Any Solutions?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been at this for hours and still don’t see a way out…

The interior thickness of my walls is about 43 mm, which means I can only fit 40 mm-deep wall boxes. I’m trying to install Shelly relays behind my light switches to keep the dumb switch functionality while adding smart control, but it’s turning into a real headache.

A Shelly relay is about 16 mm thick, and the thinnest light switches I can find are around 25 mm. That leaves barely any space (if any) to safely wire everything inside the box, and it makes me pretty nervous about cramming it all in.

Have any of you found a workaround for this?

I’ve considered using a second box or maybe a shallower switch module, and I even came across a box that looks like a solution—but unfortunately, it’s too deep and won’t fit in my wall.

Would love to hear how others tackled this kind of constraint. Any tips or products you’d recommend?

Thanks in advance!

a solution could be a double box, but what put I there to hide the second hole?

Im even thinking in a 2x2

Well if you go with a dual socket box, you buy a dual socket cover for them

But can't find a 2x2 plate

Depending on how large of w box you pick that makes the choice if what fits onto it kinda for you

Or you go plain and install another flush one next to it reroute the cables but that may be something to check with local code as it's kinda diy

That could probably also do

With relays being detachable or you getting the i variants to just control an input you could also put one in that's purely remote
