Hello, I don't know much about Home Assistant, but I have already installed it on a PC. I'm from Germany and I'm looking for smart plugs. I don't know which ones are compatible and whether you need a hub when using Matter. Thank you very much for your help.

Hya! No you don't necessarily need something matter. Without additional radios, anything that is wifi and has an integration should work

#

I recommend buying something from Shelly, they tend to be good solutions that work without any additional cloud and have plenty of good features like power monitoring and history

They clearly are listed as supported but tapo is kinda scummy with their quality of service and no local access if I recall

Id avoid

The Ikea bulbs are also fantastic. I have about 30, mostly GU10s. They discontinued the CR2032 powered dimmers, which was annoying as they are good. Get about 18 months out a battery. The AAA powered two way dimmers are ok but ugly. Then there’s the 4 way dimmers (STYRBAR?) which are fantastic. I bought some mounts off eBay from a dude who printed them. They have some quirks but work well. Left and right to change colour in the kids room, that kind of thing. The motion sensors are quite large but old and new both work extremely well. Yeah I could go on for ages about IKEA’s Zigbee stuff. I hate the furniture they churn out but the Zigbee gadgets are absolutely top notch IMO.

Totally agree. I think IKEA has discovered a niche with HA users 🙂

There seems to be exactly two types of review on the products in the shopping app: one that says “1/5: nowhere did it say I needed to spend more money on a hub!” And “5/5 works great with Home Assistant”. 🤣

Does HA work with the IKEA stuff or do you need their hub as well?

Sweet. Might dip my toes into turning on my dehumidifier during cheap electricity times

I use IKEA devices from HA both via their hub and directly with a Sonoff dongle. Both work more or less flawlessly - the only things that doesn’t work well for me are their light switch buttons but apparently they work better with Zigbee2MQTT which I haven’t tried

ZHA and a combee2. Pretty much flawless (touch wood) for 18 months. 100 devices, about 50 of those are IKEA. Then a bunch of sonoff, aqara and others.

I got Aqara ones and recently bought these, which are much better in my opinion. The aquara ones are very bulky. The NOUS ones also connected instantly
