#Do I need add-on support? (HA Container)

So apparently add-ons aren't supported on HA Container, but do I really need them? Just realized that integrations and add-ons are two different things.
What are add-ons? Can't I just use integrations?

#integrations-archived integrate Home Assistant with devices or services, or provide functionality within Home Assistant.

#add-ons-archived provide additional software or services, which an integration could possibility integrate with. Add-ons are for Home Assistant OS and Supervised only, other install methods can install software other ways.

addons are additional pieces of soft that run alongside home assistant, and often then in turn connect to home assistant via an integration.

pretty much everything that runs as an addon can be run separately in a different container but sometimes requires a bit more work.

#

the other downside is that you have to manage core updates yourself and not able to run them from within HA itself

#

if container is easiest for you especially at first then use it. you can always use the backup system to migrate your config elsewhere down the road

My issue is that I'm using an OPi 3B so HAOS isn't supported

#

At least so far, all I'll be needing is MQTT for my DIY hardware and then something to connect my smart bulbs to HA

#

I bought Airam smart bulbs and I'm currently controlling them with Tuya but I wouldn't really wanna use an external service, that's why I want to use HA

you will have to run a broker yourself for MQTT
as for the bulbs, are they wifi or zigbee?

WiFi

most tuya based wifi stuff, is forced to use their server. there is some ways around it for some devices but its a pain

#

tuya is always a problem

brisk moon
#

It's not a Tuya based device

#

I just tried to find an alternative to the manufacturers app and Tuya happened to work

trim obsidian
#

then theres a good chance its tuya "under the hood" and the manufactures app is just a frontend

brisk moon
#

Right

#

But I still have my doubts cause Airam is the most popular lamp company here

trim obsidian
#

tuya is a platform that many manufactures use

brisk moon
#

Oh

#

Well, if Tuya is required, then it is

trim obsidian
#

perhaps its not and the tuya app can talk to some non tuya stuff too... but i havent heard of it

#

some devices can be hacked to flash their firmware to esphome or something. it depends if the manufacture blew the internal fuse to stop firmware flashing or not
