Hi!

I have a Home Assistant Green and just bought the Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 USB stick. I’m trying to add a MS-1 Smoke Alarm that uses Matter over Thread, but I get this error:

“A Thread border router is required for the device. Connect the border computer and then try to configure the device.”

I thought the ZBT-1 would work as a Thread device, but it seems it’s not being recognized as a Thread Border Router.
Also seeing this message:

“Thread Hub/Bridge Required”

How can I fix this? Do I need additional hardware, or should the ZBT-1 work as a Thread Border Router with Home Assistant Green?

Here’s the product link:

Thanks in advance!

Ok i just missed something
You're going through the process of importing credentials from your mobile device to home assistant. You should be going the other way around, in fact you're not at the right menu at all.

#

In the Companion app, go to Settings > Companion app > Troubleshooting, then select Sync Thread credentials

When you go to Settings > Add-ons > Matter Server / OpenThread Border Router there will be a tab for logs you can download when you are at your computer and post here.

@brisk osprey Interference or conflict with another Thread Border Router
• You also have an Apple TV 4K as a Thread Border Router.
• Conflict may occur between two different Thread networks on the same LAN if the Apple TV and HA each try to control their own network.

#

. Temporarily disable Apple TV's Thread (if possible)
• If you can: log into the Home app on iPhone → Settings → Apple TV → disable Thread (if available)
• This minimizes the risk of Apple TV competing for control

#

ah yes, iOS is a dick and will give Apple-made TBRs precedent over any other TBR on the network. This is why I initially asked if you were on iOS... but you're not, so this should not be an issue

@brisk osprey what addons should I have installed?

ok man i am ignoring you now because i have told you I am at the end of my knowledge and experience and I do not wish to be pinged.
I reiterate once more I am not customer support. I am just a bystander who offered some advice, and now I am out of said advice.
Do not ping me again, I will not read it or respond to it.

Google is sometimes buggy, I usually do initial commission (setup) via HA Matter server Web console. You need a bluetooth dongle like $5 cheap. In this way, you can clear/bypass the issues from the controller (Google/iOS side).

Kindly keep in mind that community members are volunteers and not customer support.

here's a guide I wrote:

Matter Alpha

Skip phone pairing woes with Home Assistant's hidden Matter setup. This guide details using Bluetooth/Thread dongles to add devices directly, bypassing app bugs and platform limits.
