Voice PE won't wake / failing constantly…

I've got the error Error writing to I2S: ESP_ERR_INVALID_SIZE in the logs.

I’ve had a working Voice PE pretty much since they were available in the UK and it’s been fine. Then 2 days ago it stopped responding to the wake word.

I’ve been testing it but I’m not sure why it has gone wrong. I’ve flashed both stable release and the latest (beta) release, 25.4.0 and 25.3.2 respectively and the error is the same.

The wake word doesn’t work at all (I’ve tried changing it through the HA UI but no dice). When I press the button on the Voice PE, I get the error repeated over and over: Error writing to I2S: ESP_ERR_INVALID_SIZE.

Something seems very off. Any suggestions?

I suggest plugging it into pc and doing a full manual reinstall of firmware using bootloader mode as described HERE which uses THIS tool.

I've already been through that exact process, both flashing stable and beta firmware. Same issue.

Actually, no, that's not true, I've not tried the bootloader method. I'll give that a go and report back.

yeah, it may not make a difference but its something to try. but a hardware fault does look likely to be honest.

Sadly, failed in the same way.

Wonder if I can get in touch with someone to debug the hardware - feels against the ethos to just buy a new one…

Not really sure where/who to ask about this though.
