Hey there! My GE Profile AC decided to not come back to life and it’s out of warranty so there’s no support. I need another one, and I’d really like it to work with Home Assistant. What I really don’t want is to have to connect to a cloud API to control the device — I’d rather it be dumb than require me to connect to the cloud, to be honest, because I have a Meross temperature controller I use with a dumb space heater. Does anyone here have any personal experience with any units matching these requirements? Thanks in advance!

While the Midea system is cloud-based, the protocol they use supports local control once it has been set up (might need cloud credentials to do initial authentication). I use this custom integration via HACS for mine: https://github.com/mill1000/midea-ac-py
I use two Midea window AC's with the Matter protocol, so no cloud needed. MAW08U1QWT for about 1 year and I just installed MAW08V1YWT-S a few weeks ago.
oh, yeah, i forgot that they added matter in their newer stuff :) mine just predates that.
I double-checked that the newer of those two isn't in the recall, and that's what I chose. Thank you!
FWIW the older of my two models is in the recall. I found no issues after inspecting the unit
Yeah, i wonder what the actual problem with that was. Perhaps the mounting mechanism didn't allow enough tilt for the water to properly drain in certain circumstances?
I’m having trouble getting the window AC on Matter. I used the app to configure the network, and the AC definitely has an IP address, but neither HA nor Apple Home can add it via Matter. 😦
I did not need the midea app for connecting via matter. I was able to do it all from the home assistant app
How did you configure the device’s network, like WiFi SSID and password?
