Set variable in automation to be specific text line then output that in a card

I have an automation which I linked to an input-button helper; This automation turns off several other automations and turns off a device - I would like if possible to have this automation set some kind of variable with text like "Disabled" which is then displayed on a card someplace else - is this possible?

You can set text in an input_text helper, so long as it is < 255 characters.

And there are many ways of displaying that entity in a card.
