#EVE Thermo 3.5.1 > 3.5.2 via HA with Apple TBRs worked fine, but why?

Hi guys, we've talked in various places, that there is an issue, when using the HA Matter over Thread OTA feature with Apple TBRs exclusively.

Yesterday I updated my 9 EVE Thermos from firmware 3.5.1 to 3.5.2 via Home Assistant with no issues.

Why did this work as expected? What has changed? Any related changes in iOS 18.5 or is it the fact, that these devices were already using Matter standard 1.3? Any idea?

Thanks Hoppel

I have done several updates from HA using Apple TBRs as well. was a little spotty before the most recent Matter 8.0 server and underlying Matter OTA agent update, but I can only assume that was part of what made things work better.

In that github issue someone reported that he has the same issue without any Apple TBR…

All I have is anecdotal evidence, but after HA updated their matter-linux-ota-provider to 2025.5.0 with the Matter server 8.0 update from the v2024.7.2 used previously I have updated a many Inovelli switches through HA over Homepods and appletv TBR with zero issues. My apple home and ios have not changed. Maybe it’s coincidence. Maybe the newer Matter OTA compensated for a known apple bug.
