Subject: Struggling to get WM8960 Waveshare module working on Raspbian Bookworm (Wyoming Satellite project)

Hi everyone, 🫶

I'm currently building a Wyoming Satellite on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W running Raspbian Bookworm Lite — and while most things are working beautifully (including the satellite being recognized by Home Assistant), I just can't get the WM8960 audio module (Waveshare version) to work properly.

Specifically, the microphone and speaker setup is driving me crazy. I've followed various guides, enabled the overlay, and I can even see the device in aplay -l and arecord -l, but configuring the mixer in alsamixer feels like black magic. Either the volume is dead silent, distorted, or nothing gets captured at all.

I've tried every combination of channels, gain, ZC options, mixer toggles... but no luck. It’s especially frustrating because the rest of the satellite stack works — just no voice in or out.

If anyone has a known-good asound.conf or mixer setup for this module under Bookworm, or any tips to save my sanity, I’d deeply appreciate it.

Thanks in advance — I’m really close to making this work 🙏
